On 10/30/2008, we visited Amizade to help them set up the network in their new office. We were planning on going back to do training with Google Apps, but things didn't work out and communication ceased.

Hi Paul, I wanted to see if we could have the tech volunteers come over to Amizade again. We have two laptops that are functioning much slower than their possible maximum performance and we would like to get some insight into how to fix it or get it fixed. Also, one desktop that we have continues to act buggy. The woman who works off of it is generally here from 12-5 on weekdays, that might be a good time to come and ask specifics of its behavior if you are able. I know that it regularly shuts down for no apparent reason. Not sure if it would be necessary to have more than 1 or two of you here as I'm sure you remember from last time, our office is pretty small. Thanks and have a great day, Kat
Things we did to fix their problem
- Disable Aero (Display Properties->Select "Vista Basic", click on Advanced and disable all of the effects)
- One computer was running both McAffee and Symantec, McAffee had an expired license, we removed it and everything was much better
- We installed Avast on computers that had no anti virus software
- One computer would display a "File not found" error when excel files were double clicked, resolved as per this solution
